Preschool Details: Wilmington Head Start, Inc. is a program that has been providing services since 1984 to 3 to 5 year old children and their families who reside in Wilmington, Delaware, or whose children attend childcare within the city. The program includes 4 educational centers throughout the city that serves a total of 500 children per year. The services provided by Wilmington Head Start include education, health, disabilities, nutrition, male involvement and family services. To assist with communication and oversight of the overall program, Wilmington Head Start encourages parents participation on both the Parents Committee and the Policy Council.
Eligible Requirements: There are several requirements for your child to be accepted within Wilmington Head Start. Please read this list carefully and should you have any questions, our personnel will be happy to discuss this with you. • The child must live in or attend a childcare within the city limits of Wilmington, Delaware. • The child must be 3 years and less than 5 years old by August 31 of the enrollment year. • If your child has an IEP or IFSP then they must be 3 years old by December 31 of the enrollment year. The family income must not exceed the income guidelines published by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Age Requirements: 3 to 5 years old
How to Apply: You may complete a pre-enrollment application over the phone (302) 762-8038 ext. 10 or you can visit any of our six centers . This application should be completely filled out and taken or mailed to one of the centers. Once it is received, you will be contacted within 7 to 10 business days by a Family Service Advocate (FSA) to set up the enrollment appointment. Please note that the bottom half of your pre-enrollment application details the documents that you will need to bring with you to your enrollment appointment. Forgetting any of these documents as well as missing your appointment will delay the possible enrollment of your child. During your enrollment appointment you will be required to complete several documents and answer questions pertaining to your child's health and physical well-being. The FSA will also explain our program and answer any questions that you may have. At the end of the appointment, your child will automatically be placed on the waiting list until he/she is selected, if eligible. If you have additional time, don't forget to ask for a tour of the facility (however this center may not be the one your child attends). We're proud of our centers and like to show them every chance we get.
