Concordia East Early Head Start - Lutheran Social Services of the Virgin Islands, Inc. Location: Christiansted, VI - 00850 Contact Phone: (340) 773-4006 Details: Early Head Start provides care and education services for infants and toddlers, ages birth to three years old as well as to pregnant women. The early Head Start Program has a deep commitment and concern for the entire family. In September 2003, LSSVI opened the only Early Head Start (EHS-Concordia West) in the Virgin Islands. At the end of 2009, LSSVI/EHS was awarded an expansion grant (Concordia East) which began services in July of 2010. The LSSVI/EHS program serves a total of 120 children, families and pregnant women and services the entire island of St. Croix. The EHS Program has three components: Center Based Program, with 72 slots, is a full day program that runs year round; The a Home Based program, with 24 slots, has trained Home Visitors that give support through regular contact with families in their homes; The Pregnant Women’s program, with 24 slots, has trained Home Visitors who work collaboratively with the pregnant mother to help foster understanding and good health practices in the prenatal months and early months of infancy. Our goal is to improve child and family outcomes. We aim to accomplish this by partnering with parents of low-income families to promote the development of the total child by providing for their cognitive, physical, creative, social and emotional needs while assisting parents to learn the skills needed to support their child’s growth and development, with special emphasis on school readiness. |
