Both are Federally funded programs that are governed by Performance Standards. The programs started as initiatives to provide basic school readiness skills to children in low income households. In addition to readiness for children, the program is designed to help families reach goals toward self-reliance. This work is a collaboration of families, staff and community partners. In Santa Rosa County we are funded to serve 240 Head Start students (ages 3-4 years), and 40 Early Head Start students (age 2 years). Placement in the program is based on need rather than first come first served. Applications are taken year long, and children are placed as space becomes available. Placement letters are sent to families in late June for the next school year, with an invitation to attend the Orientation and Placement Conference for their child.
