Like Early Head Start, Alexandria Head Start (AHS) promotes kindergarten readiness for children from three to five years of age. Classes develop childrens’ early reading and mathematics skills, as well as their emotional, intellectual, and physical development. Children and families also receive health and nutrition services and referrals. Parents are also able to benefit from the support of Family Service Specialists who assist parents with their own educational and vocational goals. Like Early Head Start, AHS services are provided at several sites across the city as a result of partnerships we have forged with the City of Alexandria, Alexandria City Public Schools, and two faith-based institutions (St. Paul’s Church and Fairlington United Methodist Church).
