Quality pre-kindergarten experiences have proven to reduce the the rate of children being held back a grade, and increase their chances of graduating high school. RCCAA Head Start’s school readiness program provides comprehensive learning for Raleigh County WV children up to 5 years old; years critical to cognitive, social, and emotional development. Raleigh County Head Start programs provide a learning environment that supports development in the following disciplines: Language and Literacy; Cognition & General Knowledge; Physical Development and Health; Social and Emotional Development; Approaches to Learning. In the classroom, Raleigh County Head Start uses Creative Curriculum to spark the child's curiosity and promote learning. Our comprehensive programs address health, nutrition, social, and family needs in addition to education and cognitive development. A family needs assessment helps us tailor to the needs of each child and their families. Raleigh County Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child’s first and most important teacher. The Head Start programs build relationships with families that support: Family Well-Being and Positive Parent-Child Relationships; Families as Learners and Lifelong Educators; Family Engagement in Transitions; Family Connections to Peers and Community; Families as advocates and Leaders. Our Family Services department works with the child's family to address any areas of interest to parents or guardians. Raleigh County Head Start services are designed to be responsive to each child and family’s ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage.
