Details:
Head Start is a federally funded grant program for preschool children from low-income families in the region. Head Start helps all children and their families succeed. Services are also offered to meet the special needs of children with identified special needs. Children in Head Start must be 3 years old by December 31. Children who attend Head Start participate in a variety of educational activities similar to other preschool programs. In addition, they receive medical and dental care, and have a healthy breakfast and lunch daily. The children come to school 5 days a week for 4 hours per day. Readiness activities for kindergarten are incorporated throughout the year. The Head Start personnel consists of a director, disabilities coordinator, health/nutrition coordinator, social services/parent involvement coordinator, two certified classroom teachers, an education coordinator and two paraprofessionals. All children in the program are transported to and from school by their parents.
