Head Start program's philosophy of children's growth is that they learn best when their environment meets their physical, social, cognitive and emotional needs. EIC will seek to meet those needs by providing a conductive and nurturing environment which includes culturally diverse services that will bring about a greater degree of social competence. Services provided for children and families will promote self-sufficiency. Head Start serves children in a geographical area known as region "R". This region consists of ten counties: Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, Washington, Adyen, Beaufort , and Pitt. Head Start currently serves 850 children between the ages of three to five, and their families. The program is mandated to serve a minimum of 10% children with disabilities. |
