Head Start will be an agency whose efforts and quality will continue to improve while achieving excellence, and serving every eligible child and family who desires Head Start services in the next five years. CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc. operates a Head Start Program which provides professional, comprehensive, quality services to preschool children, families, staff, and communities in Bulloch, Burke, Columbia, Emanuel, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, and Warren Counties. The funded enrollment for the fiscal year was 1,413. Funding sources include: the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Early Care and Learning, which provided a total of 14.5 million in funds. Hours of operation will range from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. depending on the needs of the community and transportation. To meet the Head Start Performance Standards the program maintains an adult/child ratio of 1 to 10 in 4 year old classrooms and 1 to 8 in 3 year old classrooms. The education staff meets Health and Human Services requirements for credentialing. 60% of teachers have a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, and the remainder of teachers have AA Degrees in Early Childhood Education. Our teacher assistants must have at minimum a Child Development Associate Credential. Our Family Services Workers must have at a minimum a Family Services Credential. However, the majority have Bachelor’s Degrees in Sociology and have an average caseload of 42. This low caseload allows opportunity for maximum assistance. Transportation is provided is some area. Two meals and a snack are provided daily to children. Center operations are supervised by a Director. All centers are Quality Rated, which exceeds licensing standards. |
