Preschool Details: Head Start is a federally funded program designed to serve income eligible pregnant women and children age birth to 5 years including children with disabilities. The Head Start program sets aside most of the program's slots to families whose incomes fall at or below the federal poverty guidelines. Head Start is able to serve a small percentage of families whose incomes exceed the guidelines.
Eligible Requirements: Eligibility for the Head Start program is based on the following: Residency: Families must live in one of the following towns and cities to enroll in an EBCAP early childhood program: Newport, Middletown, Portsmouth, Jamestown, Prudence Island, Little Compton, Tiverton, Bristol, Warren, Barrington or East Providence; Age of the child; Family income level or special eligibility due to foster care status or homelessness
Age Requirements: Birth to 5 years old
How to Apply: Parents who wish to enroll their child in the Head Start program should complete the Online Early Head Start and Head Start pre-application. An eligibility score is assigned to the pre-application once it is complete. Additional points are give to children with a documented disability. The process ensures children and families with the greatest need are prioritized for enrollment into the program. EBCAP is continually accepting applications and will assign the child to a wait list if an opening is not immediately available.
