Preschool Details: The Union Baptist / Harvey Johnson Head Start (UBHJHS), located at 1211 Druid Hill Ave., serves 80% of its families in the Upton Community in which it is located and other families in adjacent areas. The center has been in operation for forty-five (45) years serving over seven thousand (7,000) families and the community. The current pastor is Rev. Dr. Alvin C. Hathaway, Sr. UBHJHS Center is privileged to be under the auspices of the Union Baptist Church whose congregation, under the leadership of Rev. Vernon N. Dobson, raised over two million dollars ($2,000,000) to build a state of the art facility for pre-school children and their families. It is the first church in the city to undertake such a task.
