Preschool Details: Head Start (HS) and Early Head Start (EHS) are comprehensive education, health and nutrition programs specifically designed to help parents prepare their children for school in Franklin and Patrick counties. They are designed to foster the healthy development of children from low-income families. STEP classrooms also provide the opportunity for the social, emotional, and intellectual growth along with health screenings, medical and dental support services. The Head Start approach serves the entire family and seeks to empower both parent and child. Nearly 25 million pre-school aged children across the United States have benefited from Head Start since its inception in 1965. Our program serves over 200 clients including pregnant women and children from birth through age five. With over 50 education professionals, our team includes teachers, teacher assistants, family service specialists and educators, health advocates, and transportation specialists. Head Start classrooms are generally open from 8:00am to 3:00pm, August through May while Early Head Start operates on a year round schedule. Our programs are supported by the Franklin and Patrick County Public Schools, the Infant and Toddler Connection of Virginia, and Piedmont Community Services.
Age Requirements:
How to Apply: Please fill out the application form completely. In order for us to process your application and determine your eligibility, we will need a copy ofthe following: 1. Verification of income (for example: Paycheck stub, most recent income tax form, assistance award letter) 2. Verification of your child's age (Birth certificate, Proof of Birth Letter from Hospital) 3. Verification of address (utility bill, rental agreement) 4. Verification of a child's disability if your child has been diagnosed with a disability or is in the evaluation process (IEP, IFSP, eligibility minutes, statement of diagnosis from physician, letter of verification from a therapist) 5. Eligibility Interview - We will schedule a time to meet with you to review your child's application and the required documents. This may occur when you return the application or at a later date.
