Preschool Details: The Parent Child Development Corporation is the grantee agency for the Bridges Head Start Program. Head Start is a federally funded, comprehensive early childhood education program that serves income-eligible preschool children and their families. Services focus on individualized preschool education and school readiness; social and emotional development; dental, physical, and mental health; and nutrition. As Head Start addresses the needs of the whole family, parental involvement is a vital element in the success of the program. Parents are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways, including classroom volunteering, parenting workshops, at-home activities with their children, center committees, training, community events, and special projects. Governance of the Head Start program is shared by the PCDC Board of Directors and the Policy Council, which consists of Head Start parents and community representatives. The Policy Council offers an opportunity for parents to become involved and develop leadership skills.
