Preschool Details: Since 1965, Head Start has served millions of children and families by promoting school readiness; providing comprehensive services; and by emphasizing the role of parents as their child's first and most important teacher. The Head Start/Early Head Start program is a federally funded program which provides grants to local public and private non-profit and for-profit agencies. The District School Board of Pasco County is a Head Start/Early Head Start grantee offering the program in 21 different elementary schools. High quality early childhood services promoting school readiness are offered to enrolled children and families from birth through age 5. A minimum of 10 percent of the program's total enrollment must be children with disabilities. Head Start is available to ages 3, 4, and 5 while Early Head Start serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers. Early Head Start helps families care for their infants and toddlers through early, continuous, intensive, and comprehensive services and are available to the family until the child turns 3 years old and is ready to transition into Head Start or another Pre-K program. Head Start/Early Head Start programs encourages and recognizes that parents are their children's primary teachers and advocates. Head Start programs, parents, and schools work together to promote school readiness and engage families as their children make the transition to kindergarten.
Eligible Requirements: Eligibility and selection are based on family need and income. Space is Limited. Priority for Head Start is given to children who turn 4 years old on or before September 1 of the applying school year. Priority for Early Head Start is given to expectant mothers and children who turn 3 after September 1 of the applying year. Children with documented disabilities or special needs are encouraged to apply. Transportation is limited and not guaranteed. In-person interviews are required in order to complete the application process. Completing an application and in-person interview does NOT guarantee selection into the program. All applicants are placed on the program's waiting list for one year.
Age Requirements: 3 to 5 years old
How to Apply: An in-person interview is required to complete the application process and be placed on the waiting list. In order to be prepared for your in-person interview, the following documents in each category below are requested for you to bring to the interview. Our staff may be able to assist you if you are having difficulties obtaining anything below: 1) Proof of age for all applicants (Certified birth certificate, hospital birth record or current immunization record). 2) Proof of Guardianship/Kinship (If your name is not on the Child’s Birth Certificate). 3) Proof of residency in Pasco County. 4) Proof of income: Bring documentation of household income for the last 12 months by providing any of the following forms of income that applies or has applied to your family even if you are currently not working: 1040 Tax form; 1099; all W2’s (Preferred proof of income), Check stubs (4-8 week's worth from the last 12 months; please do not bring current pay stubs unless the working parent just started employment), If paid cash: Statement from employer on letterhead that includes date of hire, current pay rate and number of work hours per week, Current benefits award letter (or within the last 12 months) for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and/or Social Security Benefits (SSD) (retirement, disability, survivors, etc.), TCA/TANF (Cash Assistance) computer printout or letter from Department of Children & Families, Relative Caregiver allowance (Cash Assistance) computer printout or letter from Department of Children & Families, Child Support Documentation for each child in the home, if applicable, Unemployment Compensation (Last paystub from previous employer and unemployment wage transcript or 3 unemployment stubs). 5) Additional documents if applicable: Current proof of WIC (trifold appointment card) and/or Documentation that the applicant has a chronic health condition such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease or sickle cell disease, weight concerns, significant dental needs, or iron deficiency. Documentation of any disability (Signed IEP or Signed IFSP) diagnosed or concerns for applying child(ren).Documentation of Pregnancy (With due date) only if a pregnant woman is applying for services.
