Preschool Details: Head Start is a federally funded program for parents and their 3- and 4-year-old (pre-school) children. Started in 1965, Head Start is based on the philosophy that the parent is the primary educator for the child. HRA supports this philosophy with safe, nurturing and culturally sensitive services in a licensed setting. Head Start’s Goals to Prepare Children for Kindergarten. Your child will begin preparing for kindergarten on the very first day of pre-school. Teachers will conduct home visits and conferences with parents regularly to review progress. Children will show that they are ready for school with development in these areas: Language: understanding and using language to communicate; Literacy: identifying sounds of spoken language; Mathematics: counting for quantity and to solve problems; Science: using the 5 senses and other tools to gather information and make observations; Social/Emotional: expressing feelings, needs and opinions without harming themselves, others or property.
Eligible Requirements: These services are offered free of charge to eligible low-income New Britain families, families with foster and homeless children and families receiving TANF (state cash) and/or SSI (disability). Children must be aged 3 or 4 by January 1 of the school year. All information is kept strictly confidential.
Age Requirements: 3 to 5 years old
