Preschool Details: Both are Federally funded programs that are governed by Performance Standards. The programs started as initiatives to provide basic school readiness skills to children in low income households. In addition to readiness for children, the program is designed to help families reach goals toward self-reliance. This work is a collaboration of families, staff and community partners. In Santa Rosa County we are funded to serve 240 Head Start students (ages 3-4 years), and 40 Early Head Start students (age 2 years). Placement in the program is based on need rather than first come first served. Applications are taken year long, and children are placed as space becomes available. Placement letters are sent to families in late June for the next school year, with an invitation to attend the Orientation and Placement Conference for their child.
Eligible Requirements: Early Head Start (EHS) - age 2 / Head Start (HS) - ages 3 and 4, are federally funded programs. Santa Rosa County School Board is the Grantee for the programs. Therefore state, local and federal guidelines must be met. Head Start programs are not first come first served programs. Applications are scored in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards, and students are placed based on need.
Age Requirements: 3-4 years old
How to Apply: To apply for EHS or HS you must provide the following information to complete an application: Birth Certificate; Proof of income for all family members; Proof of residence in Santa Rosa County. Once a child is accepted into the program you must provide the following information: Up-to-date physical (must have been completed within the past 12 months); Up-to-date immunization; Hemoglobin/Hematocrit Level; Lead Level; If your child has been to the dentist in the last 6 months, proof of services received from the dental provider.
