Preschool Details: Lee County Head Start is a free federally funded preschool program for children ages three to five. In 1978, Lee County Public School System became the grantee for the program. The program is funded to serve 203 children in nine school-based centers and two Home Base settings. Eligibility for the program includes established criteria: age, income, and special needs. All the lead teachers have a bachelor's degree in early childhood; and the assistant teachers have an associate's degree or are enrolled in classes toward a degree. A new curriculum was adopted beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. Hougton Mifflin Pre-K "Splash" is aligned with the Head Start Child Development and Early Learning Framework, and Virginia's Foundations Blocks for Early Learning. The Houghton Mifflin curriculum provides a seamless transition into Kindergarten.

How to Apply: Lee County Head Start accepts enrollment applications year round. When coming into the office to apply for enrollment, please remember to bring an up-to-date shot record, proof of income, social security number, and proof of birth.
