Preschool Details: Head Start is a free preschool program for children, age 3 through 5 until kindergarten-eligible, funded through the Federal Administration for Children and Families, Office of Head Start and the Maine Office of Head Start. Head Start is available to children and families who meet federal income eligibility guidelines, as established by the Federal Office of Management and Budget. Ninety percent of the children must meet income guidelines and at least 10 percent of those accepted will be children with disabilities. The program includes a preschool classroom experience for children, a range of health and social service supports, and many opportunities for parent involvement. Nutritious meals are provided to each child in a family style setting. Parents are encouraged to participate in classroom programs, home visits with staff, center activities, and on policy-making boards and committees.
Age Requirements: 3 to 5 years old
How to Apply: Please submit the following items with your application: Income documentation - REQUIRED to determine eligibility for Head Start/Early Head Start services and some pre-k programs; must show the twelve months or calendar year of income. Examples: 2016 1040 tax form, 2016 W2 form, 2016 1099 form, DHHS benefits letter, foster care subsidy letter, etc.; Birth certificate (optional with application - center staff will follow up on these items at enrollment); Immunization records (optional with application - center staff will follow up on these items at enrollment).
