Preschool Details: Head Start (children ages 3 to 5 years old) and Early Head Start (pregnant women, and children ages birth to 3 years old) supports children’s growth in language and literacy, cognition and general knowledge, physical development and health, social and emotional development, and approaches to learning. The program is designed to be responsive to each child and family’s ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage and emphasizes the role of parents as their child’s first and most important teacher. Head Start and Early Head Start programs promote school readiness of young children by providing a learning environment either in a center, childcare partner location, or in a family’s own home. 'As the Head Sart Program for Androscoggin County and with more than 50 years of early childhood development experience behind it, Promise provides a safe, engaging, and empowering place for children to learn and grow.' Both Head Start and Early Head Start are federally funded programs for preschool children 0-5 years of age. These programs are free of charge for income eligible families. A sliding fee scale is in place for childcare services. Children experience developmentally appropriate classroom activities to increase skills in learning, thinking and doing, social interactions, large and small muscle development, and daily health and nutrition routines. At Promise Early Education Center, Head Start and Early Head Start works with families to provide the following services to enrolled children: Medical exams and necessary follow-up; Immunizations; Dental exams and necessary follow-up; Developmental screenings; Lead screenings; Vision and hearing screenings; Nutritional services; Social and emotional health specialists; Social services (Family Partnerships).
