Preschool Details: Head Start is a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social and emotional development. Head Start provides a learning environment that supports children’s growth in: Language and literacy; Cognition and general knowledge; Physical development and health; Social and emotional development; Approaches to learning. Comprehensive services are available to enrolled Head Start children and their families. These include health, nutrition, social services and other services determined to be necessary by family needs assessments, in addition to education and cognitive development services. Head Start services are designed to be responsive to each child and family’s ethnic, cultural and linguistic heritage. The Center for Family Resources provides Head Start programs for low-income children ages three to five years old throughout all of Passaic County (excluding Paterson and Passaic City) with an emphasis on school readiness and child outcomes. Early Head Start (EHS) is a federally funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers and pregnant women. The EHS mission is to: Promote healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women; Enhance the development of very young children; Promote healthy family functioning.
